NAR can do more to encourage innovation

Re: 'Blogosphere reacts to proposed NAR/DOJ settlement' (May 28)

Dear Editor:

This week's proposed settlement between the National Association of Realtors and U.S. Department of Justice does not directly impact Assist-2-Sell because we have always had full, unrestricted access to multiple listing services. NAR's past policies were obviously targeting online real estate brokerages, in our opinion.  more...

Odds stacked against small mortgage brokerages

Re: 'Next HUD boss says RESPA reform workable' (May 27)

Dear Editor:

I can't help to wonder why coming up with a better, simplified process of disclosing to a borrower is so difficult to figure out.

The market has already corrected itself in a major way. The loan programs that should have never been in place are now gone. Lenders, loan officers, title companies, appraisers, etc. that were acting as the bad apples of our industry are now gone.  more...

Will MLS rule best serve non-Realtors?

Re: 'Debate flares over 'MLS' in Web site URLs' (May 21)

Dear Editor:

Although I understand the National Association of Realtors' interest in protecting consumers, I think it's obvious the Professional Standards Committee does not understand the big picture.

Do they prefer that non-Realtors register and use these "MLS" URLs?

Increased penalties, liability is best for RESPA

Re: 'Industry slams HUD's RESPA proposal' (May 22)

Dear Editor:

Increasing penalties and allowing civil action against lenders and brokers will be the most effective step in bringing the industry to a higher level of performance.

MLS should serve participants, not police them

Re: 'Editorial: Internet killed the MLS' (May 21)

Dear Editor:

I think here in Massachusetts we have a good MLS system. However, I have been licensed for over 20 years and one major concern I have is that the MLS has gone from a service offered to agents looking for their participation, to a service that seems to fancy itself the police of agents.  more...

Today's open social a legacy from the past

Marc Davison

If you think your customers know you by reading your Web site bio, think again.
If you think you create loyalty from a simple brand statement, think again.
If you think all this innovation separates you from tradition, please think again.

The past

Every Friday morning, as a boy, I joined grandma on her weekly trek to the butcher. Shelly knew exactly what kind of chicken grandma preferred for the Sabbath meal.

It was bagged when we arrived. Her name, scribbled across the wrapping. A few marrow bones thrown in for her soup. No charge.  more...

MLSs lag in jump to 'people-centric' service

Re: 'Editorial: Internet killed the MLS' (May 21)

Dear Editor:

For years the MLS has struggled for the "right" position regarding disclosure of listing information. However, in our new "Internet" age of social reason and interaction they have not made the transition from a "listing-centric" service to a "people-centric" service.  more...

Sellers need direction on pricing

Re: 'Old tricks for new market realities' (May 20)

Dear Editor:

Unfortunately, problems exist with the inability of the real estate agent to research the property and convey the fair-market price to the seller.  more...
